What causes cellulite?

Women around the globe (and a few men as well) suffer from this unsightly, bumpy texture on the skin known as cellulite and want to know what causes it. Cellulite can be caused by a number of factors, but in general, the same unhealthy practices that lead to weight gain also encourage cellulite growth. Many times, women’s efforts to hide their cellulite behind tight clothing are actually exacerbating the problem by restricting the blood flow to the places that need it the most such as the midsection, thighs, and buttocks.

Cellulite is not necessarily a product of an unhealthy lifestyle, and can simple be the result of an unlucky gene and some overactive hormones. However, most women looking for a cellulite treatment are either not eating right or not exercising, and therefore allowing the chambers that keep fat cells in a nice neat row to break down and clump up.

Therefore it is important to avoid foods such as fats, sugars, and sodium in favor of vitamin and nutrient rich foods. Fast food is the number one culprit when it comes to cellulite and even a modest intake can lead to big problems under the skin. If you are eating fast food even once a week, you could be accelerating your unwanted cellulite growth.

The other factor, of course, is exercise. If you’re not leading an active lifestyle and engaging in at least some form of exercise daily, then you can almost guarantee to struggle with cellulite if you haven’t begun to already. If you’re out of shape, your blood can’t get to all the places it needs to get to. This causes the membranes that support the fat cells to break down.

If you’re still doing all you can with diet and exercise and not seeing the results you want, it may be time to consider a cream or supplement as a cellulite cure. Some of these can be very effective, especially the creams, but it is always important to research a product before beginning use.
